2009 FBS Sleeper Player: David Price

Team: Tampa Bay Rays
Throws: Left

Position: SP

The only thing holding Price back from greatness is having a rotation spot locked down with the Rays. The sad part is it has nothing to do with talent. The major factor in where Price might end up is the fact that he has minor league options left. But his main competition is Jeff Niemann and Jason Hammel, so even if Price does start the year at AAA, it won't be for long. The kid has an electric arm, and will immediately have among the best stuff in all of baseball. In his three stops in the minors last year, Price was a disgusting 12-1 with a sparkling 2.31 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 109 innings. Price started the year in Class-A ball and finished it up in the World Series. He saved the seventh game of the ALCS and also collected a win in the playoffs. There is always a risk with drafting young pitchers, as there is a growing period with almost all of them. Price's should just be shorter than most. There aren't too many players that I would say this for, but Price is the kind of talent that is worth carrying on your bench even if he doesn't make the majors right away. His prediction is based on the assumption he will start the year at AAA for a month.

Prediction: 11-6, 3.55 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 110 Ks
