2009 FBS Sleeper Player: Andy LaRoche

Team: Pittsburgh Pirates
Bats: Right

Position: 3B

Once one of the gems of the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system, LaRoche was shipped off to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008 after failing to take over the starting third base jobs when he was given numberous opportunities. You can't argue with his talent, and by his minor league statistics, he was projected to be much better than older brother Adam. At AAA-Las Vegas in 2007, LaRoche hit .309 with 18 homers and drove in 48 runs in just 73 games. That is less than half a season. However, it hasn't translated to the majors yet. In his 111 game major league career so far, LaRoche has hit just .184 with just six long balls. But he is just too good for this not to turn around. He will be the starting third baseman for the Pirates heading into 2009, and is a deeper sleeper, but someone to definitely keep your eye on. He most likely won't even be drafted so you will have the luxury of watching how he does in spring or in the first few weeks of the season to see if this is the year he starts to live up to his enormous potential. If you see him hit even a little hot streak, grab him quick.

Prediction: .271, 18 homers, 68 RBI, 58 runs scored
