2009 FBS Sleeper Player: Lastings Milledge
Team: Washington Nationals
Bats: Right
Position: OF
A former top prospect in the New York Mets' organization, Milledge was inexplicably traded for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider. He was always one of the top five to ten prospects in all of baseball, but after showing his cocky, flamboyant personality (along with his rap skills), the Mets for some reason didn't have a spot for the kid. He has already been tapped as the starting center fielder for the Washington Nationals this season, and now that he has a full season under his belt he should be able to improve on what he showed in 2008. In 138 games, Milledge hit .268 with 14 homers, drove in 61 runs, and stole 24 bases. The kid certainly has the talent to have a 30/30 season, although it might be a season away. However, given where he is usually drafted he is a great value pick. If he is able to improve on his plate discipline and work on his immaturity, Milledge could turn into one of the better young speed/power combinations in the National League.
Prediction: .285, 21 homers, 81 RBI, 33 steals, 82 runs scored
