2009 FBS Sleeper Player: Chris Davis
Team: Texas Rangers
Bats: left
Position: 1B/3B
Chris Davis is a very intriguing player this year. He came onto the stage last year and in 80 games belted 17 home runs in 295 at bats with a .285 average. We watched for several games last year scouting him primarily for this season. There is no doubt he will start at first base for the Rangers and could see time at third base as well. He has tremendous power to all fields and has a quick compact stroke that drives the ball. A big advantage is he hits in Arlington, so the balls will flyout when he is home. His big problem is strikeouts. He struck out 28% of the time and only had 20 walks. The Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo will have work with his young hitter and ask him to be much more patient at the plate. He was one of the worse hitters last year with 3 balls and that makes no sense. n his Sophomore season we expect him to grow as a player and still surprise some pitchers who haven't seen him. We expect him to strikeout quite a bit, but not as much as last season. Also, we do expect some slumps and at least one prolonged slump, but overall we expect a fantastic season for this power hitting left-handed hitter.
The True Guru Projections: 30 Hrs, 105 RBI, 85 Runs, .283 Avg, 3 SB
We feel he will achieve these projections through our formula based on our secret formula of 11 herbs and spices (its locked at Fort Knox). Of course we are assuming he stays relatively healthy for the entire season.

I like my KFC extra crispy. LOL
Chris Davis is a great sleeper but it seems he on everyone list. I believe the closer we get to the start of the season he will be going to early in Drafts.
Jason,
Chris does have some issues to overcome, but with guys like me calling him a sleeper this early he is sure to go early in drafts. I got him in the 7th round of the expert draft, so no doubt the experts like you know him. Some of the not-so-expert people out there might not. :)
Todd
guru, eh?
