2009 FBS Breakout Player: Matt Kemp

We are going to be releasing a series of posts on breakouts, sleepers, and busts. Matt Kemp is our first breakout player of 2009. Kemp is 24 years old and getting close to the prime of his career. He is a dodger lineup starving for offense and unless they resign Manny, he will likely get the focus from opposing teams.

Kemp has been on the MLB scene for parts of 3 seasons and last year with 603 at bats showed his potential. In 2008, Kemp racked up a .290 BA, 18 HRs, 26 RBI, and 35 stolen bases. Granted those aren't quite All-Star caliber numbers, but we feel that is the impact of a poor Los Angeles Dodgers lineup, that hopefully will improve in 2009. Either way, he will continue to get better and develop as a young star in MLB. He now has one full season under his belt and he has gone through most of the pitchers and he can now physically handle the full season wear. The Dodgers have allot of young talent on offense and will sign more bats. They are reportedly looking at Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn. Of course Manny is the big target for them. If they sign some or any of those guys Kemp's numbers should benefit, but either way we see a good increase for him in 2009. For our calculations, we will assume that the Dodgers will sign someone to add some offensive pop to the middle of that order and make Matt Kemp that much more valuable.

The True Guru Matt Kemp Projections: .301 BA, 25 Hrs, 99 RBI, 39 SB

We feel he will achieve these projections through our formula based on our secret formula of 11 herbs and spices (its locked at Fort Knox). Of course we are assuming he stays relatively healthy for the entire season.

A++++. Kemp is a monster stud this year. We expected more from him last season.

I have to agree as well, the sky is the limit for Kemp.
