2009 FBS Breakout Player: Jake Peavy
Team: San Diego Padres
Throws: Right
Position: SP
OK, here comes the haters and the, "You can't call Peavy a breakout!" guys. Well, yes you can. Peavy is coming off arguably his worst season that was impacted by bad luck and injuries. He finished with only 10 wins, a bloated 2.85 ERA and missed 200 strikeouts for the first time in 4 years. So yes, in 2009 Peavy will breakout and get back to his 2007 form. At 28 Peavy is in his prime and ready to try and match Santana for the Cy Young. Another bonus for Peavy is he will probably get traded to another National League team. Awesome. He loses the pitcher-friendly ballpark, but hopefully will get an offense. Just to let you know how far this guy is slipping, I just got him in the 6th round of an expert mock draft. He is way under-valued and therefore a breakout.
The True Guru Projections: 18 wins,220 Ks, 2.49 ERA, 1.08 WHIP
We feel he will achieve these projections through our formula based on our secret formula of 11 herbs and spices (its locked at Fort Knox). Of course we are assuming he stays relatively healthy for the entire season.
